West of Scotland Acro Championships 2012

Congratulations to all the gymnasts who took part in the West of Scotland Acro Championships yesterday.  Many of the club’s younger gymnasts competed for the first time and all performed very well.

In Preparatory A WP Ellie Stewart and Amy Paterson claimed silver medals in their first competition together.  They were closely followed by Jodie Warren and Cara McGinley who took the bronze medals in this category in what was their first competition.

In Grade 1 WP Hazel Howat and Dani Thomson performed impressively to win bronze medals in a very tough section with eighteen pairs competing.  Their score of 25.35 was enough to earn them bronze medals after a routine filled with exciting choreography and excellent technical work.

Sarah Finlay and Holly Kelly competed in Grade 2 WP and put in a superb performance to win gold with an impressive score of 25.55.  The girls added this medal to their silver from the Scottish Championships last month and were almost a whole mark ahead of the partnership in 2nd place.

The Grade 2 WG saw Laura Mcmillan, Sarah Finlay and Holly Kelly take the gold medal with a very well executed routine.  This was another strong performance after winning silver at the Scottish Championships in this category.

There were several partnerships who were unlucky and just missed out on medals finishing in 4th place in their categories.  The Preparatory WG of Sophie Gray, Abbey Sutherland and D’Arcy Cameron claimed 4th place as did the Preparatory B WP of Ella Kelly and Becky Daly.  The Grade 1 WP of Heather Mardle and Anna Begen just missed out on bronze as did Alice Orr, Ainslie Bennett and Iona Moodie who competed in Grade 1 WG.

These results would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of all the gymnasts so let’s make sure we get back into the gym this week and keep working hard to build on this success.  Keep up the hard work!  Well done, girls!!!
